There are a couple of events that have Brazilians very excited as of late. These two events are the World Cup in 2014, and the 2016 Olympics which will be hosted by Brazil. Both events are going to be held in Rio. Brazil is going through alot of rebuilding, and construction in order to improve for these events. Brazilians are anticipating the World Cup and the Olympics more than any event in their history. Prior to these events being announced Brazil was in a bad state. Many of the buildings in the Port were abandoned. Other places of work had shattered windows, and were covered in graffiti. If u fast forward a couple years now Brazil is moving forward with its overall look. Museuem's are being built to honor Brazil's rich history. Their are many different monuments that have been put up also to not only honor local heros, but to give tourists a look at its history. Historical sites, shops and resteraunts are also built also. This has helped the economy in many different ways. The Miami Herald quotes
Prsident Luiz Lula Da Silva has done a good job in putting money into these events. Many people say Brazil isnt a good place to hold these events because of its high crime rate, and struggling economy. Many people respond to crime excuse by saying that every country has places that are dangerous. Ther runner up behind Brazil in being the host is Chicago, and the South side region of this midwest state is one of the more dangerous places in not only the United States but in the world. The President has put the equivalent to 15 Billionm dollars into these events. He has increased security to prevent crime. Huffington Post quotes
"new units of multi-lingual tourist police and plain clothes details are already putting putting the collar on tourist crime and community policing tactics are starting to pay off in some bairros and favelas."
The number of hotels, stores and tourist attractions has doubled in the last couple years. Lula Da Silva has also improved public transportation to make it easier to travel to different events. With these efforts shown the IOC (international olympics committe has given Brazil the green light. The IOC is behind Brazil 100 percent and doesnt regret selecting them for their 2016 games.
With its beautiful sites, and weather Brazil should be a very good location for these events. It will help improve the economy and the spirits of the people in Rio. They have gone through some bad times but these events has given them reason to be proud of their home and culture.
